Rev. Peta Evans: A UK Baptist church has gone above and beyond to support the trans community and MCC North London, UK. Some of you may be aware that recent government guidance in the UK states that transgender people should not be allowed to use single-sex spaces that align with their gender identity, leaving them excluded and at risk in many places. 

In response, Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, who hosts MCC North London in their building and partners with us in ministry, went to great expense to remodel the downstairs of the building, turning all the toilet facilities into single-occupancy toilets that anyone can use, so that everyone can safely use the church facilities.

This has been particularly important to us in running our Night Shelter for the homeless, so that trans and non-binary guests and volunteers are safe and welcome (indeed, we would struggle to manage without our trans volunteers!) It is a powerful act of support from Bloomsbury Baptist – worth more than a thousand words.

In additional good news, the company who did the building work heard about the Shelter, and have donated us 20 new beds, with mattresses, pillows and all!
