Metropolitan Community Churches across North Carolina are taking a powerful step forward in statewide faith advocacy. Fred Cannady-Kelderman—MCC Clergy Candidate and Governing Board Member of the North Carolina Council of Churches (NCCC), located in the United States—is stepping into the role of official representative to bridge local MCC congregations with the broader ecumenical movement.

For decades, MCC has proclaimed God’s inclusive love and championed justice for LGBTQ+ individuals and marginalized communities. Partnering with the NCCC aligns directly with that legacy. The Council unites diverse faith traditions across North Carolina to advocate for systemic justice, human well-being, equality, and peace.

“The North Carolina Council of Churches brings together people of faith to work for justice, compassion, equality, human well-being, and peace,” Cannady-Kelderman says. “Its mission aligns closely with the historic witness of Metropolitan Community Churches: proclaiming God’s inclusive love, standing with those pushed to the margins, and working for communities where every person can flourish.

“As your representative, I hope to listen well, communicate clearly, and help ensure that the voices, ministries, and concerns of MCC congregations are present in the Council’s conversations and advocacy. I also hope to share opportunities for collaboration, learning, public witness, and faithful action as they arise.”
