Baton Rouge estate planning attorney Paula Ouder was the guest of MCC Baton Rouge in LA, USA last Saturday, November 22, for a free presentation on protecting marriage rights for same-sex couples, whether married or not.

Invited to the event were same-sex couples – married, partnered, or dating – and single LGBTQ citizens (and their allies) who may be concerned about the future of same-sex marriage in the United States.

“The Supreme Court has – for now – declined to hear challenges to the 2015 decision that expanded marriage rights nationwide,” Ouder said. “But by no means should anyone think the issue is dead. SCOTUS could change course based on future appeals.

“Many marriage rights can be protected through other legal documents, and I want people to understand their options,” said Ouder, herself in a 30-year same-sex partnership and who, with her wife, has a 14-year-old son. “Whether you’re already married, pondering marriage, or simply curious about the options available to LGBT couples, I want to share information.”
