From April 30th to May 3rd, the communities of the ICM North-Northeast Network of Brazil gathered for a powerful weekend of reflection, prayer, and fellowship. It was a deeply enriching time of spiritual renewal and collaborative planning, during which the Network evaluated its journey so far and established immediate, actionable steps to strengthen its collective mission.

Here is how the retreat is translating into exciting new initiatives, practical training, and community transformation across the region.

Reconnecting Leadership and Worship

A strong network thrives on regular connection. During times of reflection, the ICM North-Northeast Brazil Network recognized the urgent need to revitalize the spaces that keep its various communities united:

• Bimonthly Leadership Gatherings: The Network is resuming regular meetings for its Community Leadership. Held every two months on an alternating basis, these meetings will allow leaders to make forward-looking, evaluative decisions tailored to each local community. (The first meeting kicked off right after the retreat at the end of May.)
• Online Network Worship Services: To celebrate the unity and collective strength of all communities, the ICM North-Northeast Brazil Network is relaunching its shared online worship services. These will alternate every two months with the leadership meetings, beginning early this June.

Equipping Communities: Free Certified Workshops

Retreat workshops shed light on two shared challenges across almost all Network communities: financial constraints and digital visibility. To turn these challenges into opportunities, the ICM North-Northeast Brazil Network is launching two free, certified training programs designed to empower members and neighbors alike:

Budgeting and Personal Finance Management (June & July)

Recognizing that economic hardships often prevent individuals from fully participating in community activities, this course aims to provide practical financial tools. Over four 2-hour meetings, participants will learn strategies to improve their quality of life and build financial resilience.

Social Media & Digital Communication (August & September)

To help churches overcome virtual communication barriers and increase their visibility, this workshop will train community members in social media management. Participants will gain valuable skills to help their local churches share their stories and impact with the wider world.

Ongoing Commitments: Looking beyond these workshops, the ICM North-Northeast Brazil Network remains dedicated to ongoing reflection and action regarding the climate crisis and fostering greater engagement and affirmative actions for women in its communities.

Models of Impact: Inspiring Success from ICM Cabedelo PB

One of the greatest joys of the retreat was celebrating how local faith communities are driving social change. ICM Cabedelo PB shared two incredible initiatives that serve as powerful blueprints for grassroots social action:

The “YES, I can!” Literacy Initiative

After realizing that many residents in the surrounding neighborhood lacked basic literacy skills, ICM Cabedelo partnered with the Rural Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) last year to launch an adult education program. The first class was a resounding success, transforming lives through education—and the church has officially opened a second class for this year.

Launching a Solidarity Kitchen (Cozinha Solidária)

In a massive step forward for food security, ICM Cabedelo successfully qualified for a Solidarity Kitchen project in partnership with the Federal Government of Brazil and the Workers for Rights Movement.

For years, the church’s outreach program supported 80 families with seasonal groceries and produce. Now, backed by a two-year government subsidy that ensures community autonomy, the church will serve 2,800 families per month with two nutritious meals a week. This vital civic action brings health, hope, and incredible visibility to the church’s mission.

Strengthening the Denomination

The ICM North-Northeast Brazil Network left the retreat with a renewed appreciation for life and a deep desire for change. The entire denomination looks forward to seeing how these workshops, worship services, and community projects will bear fruit and inspire other regions in the months to come.
