Last May 31, MLK Park in Davenport transformed into a powerful hub of solidarity as neighbors gathered for the “Stand Up for Each Other” peaceful rally. Sponsored by a broad coalition of progressive organizations—including our very own Metropolitan Community Church—the event drew a passionate crowd dedicated to fighting for kindness, equality, and systemic justice.
Among the featured speakers was Rev. Elder Rich Hendricks, co-founder of One Human Family, member of the MCC Council of Elders, and pastor of MCC Quad Cities.
Rev. Rich delivered a fierce defense of the marginalized, directly challenging recent political rhetoric that targets vulnerable communities.
“To classify anti-fascists as terrorists should be a cause for public uproar,” Rev. Rich told the crowd. “And to label transpersons and their supporters as terrorists is absolutely ridiculous. We are tired of these antics and call on the public to come stand up for each other while we still can.”
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s crucial primary elections, Rev. Rich urged the crowd to translate their energy into action at the ballot box. He then led the gathering in powerful chants that echoed across the park: “Trans rights are human rights,” and “No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here.”
